Photographer Renee Doyle captured this scene midmorning on the island of Burano, in the Venetian lagoon. “All the houses are painted a different color, and the patterns and the colors reflected in the canal appealed to me,” she says. A telephoto lens allowed her to zoom in tight on the colors and designs. Note how the ripples in the water produce an abstract look.

Doug Steakley photographed this dramatic scene along a small riverbank in Serengeti National Park, Tanzania. “It was late afternoon, almost evening,” Steakley says. “I anticipated the reflection as the crocodile slid into the water, and I got lucky.”
